Rock Section Remastered.

Remastered for that extra bit of thump and grit, the Fuzztones/Skin Patrol classic of Julian Cope’s 131 fame, later remixed as Dayglo Maradona by Andrew Weatherall: https://depositosonoro.com/2020/09/10/julian-cope-de-the-teardrop-explodes-el-enlazador-de-mundos/

Strangely enough coinciding with the release of the remastered Rock Section from 1980 comes the re-release of the very guitar I’m playing on the track and pictured in the above photo, the Watkins Rapier 33, at last a new version as the original looked great but was very flawed. "And he dressed that guitar like a mutha!"

“Handsome, debonair, and weird. Some times I’d think “this is way too weird, I wish they had one less fuzz-tone guitar”, and then another night I’d be thinking “damn this is normal, can’t they get another fuzz-tone guitar”. On reflection, I think you nailed it!” Dave Sketchley

Thank you Andrew Dickinson for finding the photographs!

We just need to find the tape and the film……..Big Jake.

The Rock Cemetery and the Archdruid’s Private Cell.

Rev. George Oliver and Nottingham’s Druid Temple.  Edwin Patchitt was the man who designed the Rock Cemetery. This is where Skin Patrol used to go to write songs after gigs around the time of the ‘Rock Section’ seances. He and his family are buried in quite an elaborate family plot. The location of the tomb is exactly positioned in what Oliver described as being the ‘arch druid’s cell’.

Julian Cope releases remix of Skin Patrol / One Million Fuzztone Guitars classic track “Rock Section”!

The actual track sampled here is the first ever studio recording of ‘Rock Section’ by Skin Patrol as part of the ‘Egypt Road Sessions’ shortly before they became One Million Fuzztone Guitars and recorded an electronic version as part of the ‘Heaven/Annuese’ single session. Both the original and the remix feature Robert Courtney (guitar and vocals), Andrew Dickinson (Bass) and Steve Harvey (drums)

“The original version is a new wave cracker, stretched long by the druid himself while Weatherall adds some machines and takes it straight for ALFOS”. The real story of Rock Section is in an unopened brown envelope marked “Return to Sender”.

But the legend of Rock Section just got even weirder………..Bobby C
